Library Talk Goes BETA
Library Talk (as well as my other blogs) has moved over to the BETA version of Blogger.
Since this is a new blog created using an unmodified template, I don't anticipate any big problems. On the plus side, posters will now be able to (and are encouraged to!) tag their posts; I will add a "tags" section to the sidebar prontito. Just FYI: Blogger calls tags "labels," and "labels" can be added in the lower-right corner of the post screen.
If you encounter any problems with the BETA version, please let me know.

Beta is forever!

So far BETA bites the big bowanga, IMHO.
I now keep getting an error message everytime I try to publish saying that I am not logged into my server account. Um, yeah, I am. I have re-set my login several times to no avail.
Sigh.
The biggest problem, again in my opinion, with big "upgrades" like these is that too much is attempted all at once. So, you get left with LOTS of little bugs rather than a bug or two with smaller, more frequent upgrades.
The other BIG issue with BETA is that if you host the blog yourself, you cannot use the layout features that come with BETA. Now, for me this isn't a HUGE problem, as I LIKE being able to code my sidebar by hand, but this also pretty much renders the new tagging function useless - in order for me to add the tags in the sidebar now, I either have to UPDATE THEM EVERYTIME new tags are added (NOT!) or hack them the way I was hacking them before BETA. For me, this makes the BETA version almost useless - the ONE BETA feature I was psyched for was the damn tagging....
Oh man, I should know better than to do crap like this when I am in a bad mood. :)

Great, here's ANOTHER craptastic issue with BETA - you cannot view old comments on your blogs unless you sign in to the old blogger (or maybe you can't view them at all)!
That, people - ARE YOU READING THIS BLOGGER!???? - sucks!

OK, that last post seems to be in relation only to my personal blog - though there is no rhyme/reason for it. No idea why I lost those comments...

OK, so, it seems that you need to republish your entire blog before you will be able to get your comments back. Also, be sure to check your "See my public profile" link - in some cases it goes back to the old blogger profile, so you may have to update it manually in the template code (this only applies to self-hosted blogs that do not have use of the new layout features).

I always seem to do upgrades when I'm halfway cranky...and that pushes me into fullblown crankiness.
I've been hearing a lot of grumbles about Blogger Beta. "Beta is forever" is a good thing, as long as bugs are quickly handled and improvements are frequent.

When I went beta, it took a while for my comments to come back, but they eventually did.
The new layout editor thing blows, in my opinion. LT looks great, though. Good job with the hand-coding!

OMG, I was in such an ugly mood yesterday! When I got home from work, I did not approach the computer at all.
Later today I will be updating a couple of links, and adding the tag cloud.
